Objectives

Feedback is an essential element of the active learning process and allows students, teachers to reflect on their learning, clarifies areas they can improve and provides them with an opportunity to self-assess their skills and capabilities. How students analyse, discuss and act on feedback is as important as the quality of the feedback itself. Through the interaction students have with feedback, they come to understand how to develop their learning.

Vision

Feedback is an essential part of getting the most from your physics degree. As a student, you will receive feedback from us on every piece of assessed work. This may take the form of a written note on your problem sheet script, going through problems in tutorials, a handout, example questions and solutions (which you can compare with to check your working), peer marking, self-marking or a discussion with your tutor or a laboratory demonstrator. These are all types of formative assessment that give students guidance and information on how they are doing on the course and how they could improve. Formative assessment also informs teaching staff on well students are doing and helps them adapt their teaching to the learning needs of the students. Students are encouraged to reflect on the feedback being given to them at every opportunity, to understand how to improve and make progress.

Mission

1. Academic Feedback must be provided in a timely manner that helps students understand. . The marks they have received for the work submitted and . How their performance might be improved in the future.
2. Academic Feedback should enable individual students to reflect on their individual skills and performance.
3. Students must be informed about what form the feedback will take and when they will receive feedback.
4. Students have a responsibility to consider feedback given on their work, to seek to understand it and to act on it.
